During the Depression, my grandma, the heroine of "Alice and Frosty: An American Adventure," would sit at the kitchen table with a stubby pencil and write to Grandpa, who traveled the country to find work. She poured out her trials and triumphs in letters, and later journals, that gave early inspiration to my writing.

I live in rural Illinois and love to try new things, go different places, and come home to the good people of the midwest. And I like to hear people's stories. These stories are the strings that connect us to the past, to the unique, to the funny, to the heart-tugging, and to each other. Enjoy!
